Bone metabolism in adults is the constant repetition of resorption and formation, but as a whole a given -amount of bone is maintained. This bone metabolism is thought to be regulated and maintained nomeostatic by calcium metabolism regalating hormones such as parathyroid hormone, calcitonin and activated vit D3. Osteoporosis is meabolic disease of the bone and said tQ be a state where bone resorption is abnormally enhanced, compared with bone formation, leading to a decrease in bone amount. Elcitonin has been clinically used in the treatment of bone paget¢¥s disease and hypercalcemia due to various causes and osteopo-osis.. In this study, we used elcitonin on patients with osteoporosis, associated with lumbosacral-pain, and investigated into its therapeutic effect. Overall result at the end of 8 weeks showed that reduction of spontaneous pain was 79% and reduction of pain on movement was 84%, and tenderness was rapidly subsided. The Elcitonin was used in this study has an excellent therapeutic effect, while it is accompained by less side effects, so that it may be thought to be very useful drug, compared with many other therapeutic agents for osteoporosis.
